Being One: A Marriage Seminar

A marriage seminar, "Being One", for engaged and newly married couples,
will be conducted in Fondren Hall at St. Pauls UMC of Houston, Texas, on
Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Among the topics examined
will be:
  • The natural stages of married life
  • How to deal with the inevitable and necessary conflicts that arise
between two persons who are close
  • What is intimacy and how not only to achieve it but to maintain it
  • How money and sex are metaphors for how we "talk to each other"
    in marriage
  • The many kinds of intimacy that are possible in a marriage
  • How respect, reciprocity, and shared responsibility are keys
    to marital satisfaction
Seminar leaders are Dr. Sherry Beeman and Dr. Bill Kerley. Married to
each other, each is a former president of the Houston Association of
Marriage and Family Therapists, and Kerley twice has received their
Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to community and
professional well-being. In addition, Kerley is one of St. Paul's
associate ministers and teaches the Ordinary Life adult Sunday
School class. Beeman is a member of St. Paul's Choir.

The seminar is free of charge for couples who have been or who are
scheduled to be married at St. Paul's. For others, the fee is $60.
