A marriage seminar, "Being One", for engaged and newly married couples, will be conducted in Fondren Hall at St. Pauls UMC of Houston, Texas, on Saturday, November 1, 2008, from 9 AM to 2 PM. Among the topics examined will be:
- The natural stages of married life
- How to deal with the inevitable and necessary conflicts that arise
between two persons who are close
- What is intimacy and how not only to achieve it but to maintain it
- How money and sex are metaphors for how we "talk to each other"
in marriage
- The many kinds of intimacy that are possible in a marriage
- How respect, reciprocity, and shared responsibility are keys
to marital satisfaction
Seminar leaders are Dr. Sherry Beeman and Dr. Bill Kerley. Married to each other, each is a former president of the Houston Association of Marriage and Family Therapists, and Kerley twice has received their Distinguished Service Award for his contribution to community and professional well-being. In addition, Kerley is one of St. Paul's associate ministers and teaches the Ordinary Life adult Sunday School class. Beeman is a member of St. Paul's Choir.
